And, frankly, I’m sick of looking at it and not thrilled at the prospect of throwing $100 at it to renew the plates in a month.
Any Oppos want it??
It’s a 2005 SE , 1 owner, 168k miles, basically an outdoor cat car its whole life in Chicago, so it’s got some rust and plenty of scrapes on both bumpers as well as both rear doors because reasons. Oh, and some hail damage on the hood - the silver color does a fine job of hiding it.
Driver’s window switch sticks a bit, and the LF tire has a slow leak, plus the spare tire carrier is toast (but I do have a mounted spare for it). Interior is in surprisingly good shape, although I need to clean it - the charcoal cloth interior was an excellent choice by me, if I do say so myself. Rear brakes occasionally clunk, possibly due to lack of use - this thing has been driven. about 400 miles in the last two years. Total. In the last couple of years, it’s had a new alternator and camshaft position sensors, plus a battery.
I’m probably forgetting something, but I did just drive it for an hour or so.
Was thinking I’d ask $2500 for it, but Oppo discount applies - feel free to tell me I’m full of shit on the price.

$2400 discount right?

Take it on the Gambler 500 in May? ;)

Illinois is funny - it’s only an OBDII scan, and I think that if there are no stored codes, you’re good to go. The test is free and takes about 3 minutes (though you may have to wait in line for 5-10 minutes, like I did today because end of the month).
I’ve never had a car fail. And even that only applies to counties around Chicago and St. Louis.

Off topic, but the design always made me think of a Frontier that someone welded the back of a Volvo 850 wagon onto. Like a reverse-ute.
Far from the worst design crime of the era, just saying.
Good luck with the sale! There’s always the donation route, too. Find someone who actually uses the vehicle (instead of selling) and you can deduct the KBB value instead of waiting on the actual auction price.

Sizable discount, but maybe not quite that sizable.

My wife is having a baby in May, so it won’t be me taking it on the Gambler in May... :) :)

I liked the boxiness of it - makes it seem more trucky, I guess? It’s a good old-fashioned BOF truck, with all of the good (and bad) that goes with that.
The rear door handles are stupidly positioned, though - Nissan did that for a while, and it’s just a bit unnatural to reach there.
Donation could be a last-resort option, but I wouldn’t give it to anyone who’s going to sell it, for sure.

If it's cloth seats I assume they aren't heated? My ass has become accustomed to certain luxuries

That
is
correct.
SE
was
the
midlevel

so
it’s
got
a
moonroof,
running

and
a
few
other

but
no

heated

Why are you selling it?

See the note above about driving it 400 miles in 2 years. We have 4 cars and a 3 car driveway. I have a large sedan, the wife has a Lexus RX, and the truck blocks my old BMW in.
Other
than
the
occasional
Home
Depot
run,
or
bombing
around
in
the
snow
in
a
4x4
that
I
don’t
care
about,
it’s
useless
to
us.
I
would
have
gotten
rid
of
it
4
years
ago,
but
my
wife
thought
the
HD
runs
were
worth
it,
because
she
doesn’t
see
the
insurance
costs
or
replace
the
battery
when
it’s
dead
from
sitting.

Ah. So not sitting from being broken all the time, just not necessary. Hold, please.

Altimately, I don’t know if I want to add this to my armada. A giant V8 SUV can’t be Sentral to my commute, and only a Pathfinder could guide that behemoth through a crowded parking lot. I could Maximaize cargo space a good deal though, but I bet my greedy friends would take note and try to use my newfound Versatility when they need to move large things. I bet you feel like a Titan when you’re driving it though; it could push around other cars like they were just leafs.
...couldn't get 370z or GT-R in there. Damnit.
![]() 02/27/2019 at 18:11 |

Correct - the recent replacements ( battery, alternator/ serpentine belt, and cam sensor) did all disable the car, but the first two ( at least) were caused by the sitting, not vice versa. And they were all fixed right away.

You could have driven here, stopping in Indiana to see the home of Bluebird bus, then perhaps met a Fairlady to see the Skyline with while you visited!!!

It’s good for someone who wants a cheap, roomy 4x4 to beat on, and doesn’t care about th e brand.
For anyone else, it’s bleah.

I’d be more interested in regular food than candy tbh.
![]() 02/27/2019 at 18:40 |

If my kid were of the age to buy her first car , I’d tell her she could do worse than a big, safe 4x4 bought from a trusted friend. I’d even take her to Chicago on vacation to get it. But we’re not there yet.

How bad is the rust? Anything that couldnt be covered up and stopped easily? 7 seater? Pretty reliable family hauler? I may be interested if the price is right. Something to keep me going for a bit, ya know.

Yes

It
has

and
if
you’re

I’ll
take

of
everything.
I
’ve
driven
it
virtually
all
168k
miles
myself,
and
other
than
dead
batteries
from
sitting,
the
only
times
it
failed
were:
- a few years ago it died on my wife while driving. Some guy got it started on the side of the road for her, and the problem never returned - I did add injector cleaner after that. No t sure what happened, as I wasn’t there.
- alternator froze up from sitting and ate the serpentine belt a few years ago. I replaced bo th in my driveway
- cam position sensor went on 1 side last summer ( on my way to Home Depot go figure). Had it towed and had him replace both sides.
I also need to check my records to see what was done further back, but that was all maintenance really. Oppo price would be change the 2 to a 1 in the price above (?) if that’s fair.

Oops - on the rust I would say that there is nothing that couldn’t be covered up and stopped. I’m not an expert on that, but there are no holes. Tailgate area is the worst spot.

I’m sure she would hate it, until she realized that she could pile 6 or 7 of her friends in it comfortably.
Thing is, it’s a truck - which means stopping distances are longer and it’s got a higher center of gravity. So I’m not sure it’s the best possible 1st car for most teens.
